Abeyance
Experience is the Words that are Written
CD

By: T.J.

Every thing we witness we experience, no matter how insignificant we may think it is. Whether we watch a bird pick up a twig to reinforce its nest or just watch cars pass at a red light, we not only experience it, but we become a part of it. Abeyance explains this all quite well in their album Experience is the Words that are Written. The New York based quintet comes at you fast and hard with their Dillinger Escape Plan meets Hatebreed metal that'll whip your pussy metal lovin' ass to the curb!

I'm diving head into "Another God Fails". Now this is what I'm talking about! The ingenious tongue in cheek lyrics are some of the best on the album. Now, the first portion of the song sounds somewhat generic, but a little after the 3 minute park, the brutal music is complemented with a sincere and touching break down, only to pick up where the song started-heavy and in your face! The second part of the song (the part after the breakdown) is much better. The riffs are heavier and catchier. Some simple yet enticing chords are played at the gates of "Moment of Clarity". While I'm not really a fan of the constant yelling and blood vessel popping roars, front man Scott Tobe does an exceptional job here. Kicking down the door in which you try to hide is "Parted Like Waves". The song is one of the fastest songs and has much more melody than most other tracks. This is definitely my favorite track on the album.

The calm in the storm is an instrumental track entitled "The Paths That Lie Before Us…". It's a more laid back approach to the band's sound and a relatively strong track. And if you think the guys had used all of their energy in the previous songs, you're sadly mistaken my friends. "And I truly Walk Alone…" begins with some of the heaviest and most emotional growls on the album. Saving the best for last, guys? As much as I like the song, I'm still going to stick with "Moments of Clarity" as my favorite, but 'Walk' is surely in the running for second.

For those of you who like all things heavy, welcome to Abeyance.
