Abigail Williams

Legend

[EP]

By: Black Angel

Out of the deserts of Arizona comes one of the most unique bands I've had the experience of hearing for some time now. The band's name is Abigail Williams and they've had the internet world buzzing for the last few months, specifically Myspace, which we know is the way to promote yourself these days. AW, brings forth a very unusual blend of all that is Metal, whether it be 'Core, Death, Black or Gothic. Hell, it's all in there, I bet if you listen real good, you might even hear somebody tappin' on the sink. The band cultivates any and everything they can into their sound. Nevertheless, they tend to lean more towards the extreme side with the finished product. This finished product would be a five track EP entitled, Legend. Candlelight Records is set to release this EP on January 23.

While I most certainly enjoy this EP and appreciate all of the talent that went into making it, I can't say I'm totally sold on the end result as far as mix and mastering is concerned. Honestly, the only thing that bleeds through the muck are the guitars, keys and the clean vocals. Everything else is just thrown in abruptly to fend for itself, the screeching vocals are barely heard over the blast-beats and when it all gets going pretty good, your speakers will beg you for reprieve. Bottom line - tremendous music and talent, wretched mix and master. The band's full length is due this forthcoming Spring and I'm hoping to hear a more polished product. The influences that pour out of the five tunes on this EP range somewhere between early Cradle Of Filth, Dimmu and Emperor.
