Aborted Slaughtered & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture [CD] By: Black Angel |
The Goregrind masters from Belgium, aka Aborted has returned in early '07, with the follow up to last year's The Archaic Abattoir. The album is strangely, entitled Slaughtered & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture. And not much has changed to me, the band still manages to massacre everything in sight, leaving nothing but broken bodies in the wake. There are a few fresh sounds thrown in here and there but in the end it's Grindcore with Death Metal tendencies, so it's hard to point out the differences. The most noted changes are the lead breaks and riffing, there's a good bit going on here and you can actually pick out a melody or two and follow it along for a while.
What should be the highlight of the album is the sheer musicianship of the members in the band, it's a showcase of ungodly guitar, drum and bass work. Next to Cryptopsy and Beneath The Massacre, these guys are the best Death-techs going right now. The song structures and arrangements are mind-boggling and leave me feeling overwhelmed and under-achieved; it's simply shocking to hear music played at this pace with such precision. Sadly, I still can't get into the band too much, but I can appreciate what they're trying to accomplish. If you have a hankering for Grind, insane musicianship and you're still a fanboy of Carcass, then look no further than Aborted to get your ass handed to you. |
