Absolute Hatred The New Ultraviolence [CD] By: T.J. |
If I were to tell you that there is a very talented underground death
metal band that reminds me a lot of Slayer and Mastodon, would you
believe me? Well, you should because there is such a band, that band
is Absolute Hatred. The Colorado based death metal band is currently
unsigned (which I find hard to believe), but that hasn't deterred
them, as they're working hard to keep old school death metal alive.
"The New Ultraviolence" is clearly an effort that surpasses many of today's commercial death metal releases. The 9 tracks that make up this album are brutal, heavy and most importantly uncompromising. By not following trends or jumping on any bandwagons, the raw power of Absolute Hatred will make this band stand out like a gay guy at a titty bar. The chunky guitar riffs, maniacal bass, and un-relentless double bass drums blast right through your speakers as "Plague of Divinity" sneaks up behind you. While it's the shortest offering on the album, it's also one of the heaviest. "Broken Martyr" has chugging guitar riffs that head toward you like a mighty locomotive. One of the things I find interesting is that "Broken Martyr's" overall sound is better contained than many of the other songs from the album. It's without a doubt my favorite from this release. Rounding off the album is "Dumpster bound Hooker". In a sense it's a little slower, but it still remains heavy and dark while shedding light on the talents that drummer Dustin "Bones" has. Like I said before, I find it hard to believe that Absolute Hatred isn't signed yet. They stick to creating music that would make even the most picky death metal heads proud. All I can say is whichever label picks these guys up will extremely lucky. |
