Pain is the Game

[CD]

By: T.J.

After the success of their debut album in the way of 2005's INFERNO MUSEUM, it was very important that Allhelluja come back with an album just as brilliant to further pinpoint the band as one of the better new bands to surface in the hard rock and heavy metal genre(s). For those unfamiliar with Allhelluja, but familiar with vocalist Jacob Bredahl's thrash metal project Hatesphere, the band is a less brutal, more metallic, hard rock orientated group in comparison.

The name of the game is pain and Allhelluja does their best to bring it to you in their sophomore release PAIN IS THE GAME. The new album features what I would consider a more groove heavy sound and incorporates more stoner rock essence in some of their songs and by doing so the band taps the second keg of medium to high quality groove easy tracks; all for your listening pleasure. Now, while all of the songs are written well, the majority of them didn't stick with me. I would be rocking out in my car to each song, but when it was over, I felt empty. Okay, well that's not entirely true. Songs like "Superhero Motherfucker Superman", "Hey J", and the minute long bass and drum instrumental "Amen" stuck with me for a short while and funny enough are my favorite songs the album offers.

Allhelluja is definitely headed in the right direction and I would really like to see where they'll be in 5 years, but for right now, I'm going to say my Jacob Bredahl band of choice is HATESPHERE!
