Ancient By: Black Angel |
2004 marked the return of the Black Metal kings, Ancient. It's been a few years since we last heard a new album from Ancient. This time around, all members of the band had more input than normal and the results are stronger more well-balanced tracks. So, without furtherado I give you "Night Visit".
Every track on "Night Visit" is fucking fabulous! "Envision The Beast" is a composition that seems borrowed from the early days of Cradle Of Filth, minus a good bit of the orchestration. The vocals are packed with high-pitched screeches while the guitars have a muddy feel. The breakdown of the track features soft female vocals followed closely by a powerful guitar lead. "Rape The Children Of Abel" is a brilliant track. The vocals have a sense of urgency, while packed with deep-throated growls. The drum sound of this track, which I liken to the sweet sounds of Jackhammers, is out of this world. The title track "Night Visit", has a beautiful atmospheric feel. Here again, the vocals are awesome! I am highly impressed with the guitar work created in the song. The lead sounds are very similar to Iron Maiden's, which of course is plus! The orchestrations and strings also give the track a warm tone. The track "Lycanthropy" makes me hungry, but of course it would. Again, the guitarist outdoes himself on this track, as does the singer. The strangest thing about the track, though, is the breakdown. I hear the riffs from the old Anthrax song "Be all, end all" and I know this is purely coincidental but it's still damn cool! "The Truth Unveiled" is an extravagant seven minute epic, with a voracious story of a little girl who, while walking through the fields, stumbles upon an angel that has been savagely ripped to shreds. Upon further inspection, the little girl gazes into the dead eyes of the angel and catches a glimpse from the land of the dead. If you like Cradle Of Filth just a teeny little bit, Ancient is right up your alley. Ancient has really come into their own with the release of "Night Visit" and with the right promotion and tour packages put together, Ancient could find themselves on Ozzfest or one of the other big summer festivals . I'd also like to add that if you like Cradle Of Filth just teeny little bit, Ancient is right up your alley. |
