And One

Bodypop

[CD]

By: Hydro

I do love seeing a group of electronic musicians jump around within a genre. Germany’s And One do this all the time. Though I tell you if you’ve been around for 17 years and stick to the same old thing then it will just get boring. You find this a lot in the metal and punk scenes. It seems like there is a lack of experimentalism in most genres or at least minimal. Back to the point, we have a new And One album by name of “Bodypop” and it couldn’t be a more fitting title. As the oceans move at a constant life sustaining tumble so does the pulsating waver of And One. I won’t lie and say I have been listening to this group for ages upon ages. You see this is the first I’ve truly listened to this group, and I very well might again in the future.

“Mein Anfang” sets the mood with bit of an atmpospheric head bobber, and slides slick like the tounge of a viper into “Military Fashion Show” which just makes me want to put on my BDU’s and sing. After everyone has sashayed their militant selves round the club the album moves right into “Enjoy the Unknown”. This one is a bit more on the mellow, but doesn’t stop the pace one bit. I must say I like the idea of seeing all the decked out pseudo-military couples dancing to this tune. Then the pace is back to dank dancehall of the future as “So Klingt Liebe” comes on. A little more on the pop side of the spectrum but shows that And One still know how to torch the charts with their special brand of future pop. I’ll stop there with the jazz on all the tracks. If you want to know more then go out and get the album. I highly suggest it if you are into future pop or synth pop. This one is definitely for fans of VNV Nation. I would say that “Military Fashion Show” and “Body Company” are my two favorite tracks on this disc. No real low points, but then again there are no super high points. What can I say that hasn’t already? German synth pop is German synth pop.

7…yes…7 out of 10 on the meter that has no name!
