Angtoria God Has A Plan For Us All [CD] By: Black Angel |
Angtoria is a new Symphonic Metal band fronted by one of the loveliest women to ever grace the stage - Sarah Jezebel Deva. For those of you who are clueless, Mrs. Deva is the backing singer for the Black Metal band, Cradle Of Filth. Deva has also done some work with the magnificent Therion, as well as the weirdo that is the ever-impressive Mortiis. Joining Deva in Angtoria, are Chris Rehn (Abyssos) and his brother Tommy (Moahni Moahana). The band is rounded out with session musicians, Dave Pybus and Andreas Brojber. The band has recently released their debut entitled, God Has A Plan For Us All, courtesy of Listenable Records.
If you've followed any of the aforementioned bands then you already know just how capable Deva is of being a remarkable vocalist. Her operatic voice, both live and in studio is one of the best to ever be captured and I mean that with every shred of my being. However, Angtoria isn't a continuation of Deva's past works, there's not an ounce of opera laced in her vocals, it's her "true" voice. It's every bit as good as her previous works and in some ways better, because the spot light belongs to her and she no longer has to share it with a bunch of sweaty men. Of course, not everything about Angtoria is about Deva. The Rehn brothers have put together an exceptional album of Orchestra drenched, Gothic Metal. I'm not even sure you could tag it with that label, it's out there, that's for sure. There are bands you can compare Angtoria to - Epica, Nightwish and a long gone Theatre Of Tragedy. But I wouldn't exactly say Angtoria could truly be pigeonholed with them either. Personally, God Has A Plan For Us All is more about dreamscape and imagery than it is anything. The music and emotions that engulf this cd take you to an entire different plain of existence where the heartbeat is true and the being of the universe is simple, elegant and surreal. The music is extremely Progressive and technical and in some ways abit hard to comprehend but then again, you aren't meant to understand dreamscapes and out of body experiences, are you? Deva's vocals are, as I've already mentioned, HEAVENLY. Before I heard this disc, I didn't think she could do any wrong, now that I've heard it, I know she can't! It's also an eye opening experiencing into her innermost feelings and thoughts as she bares her heart and soul in the lyrics of every tune. The stand outs are "God Has A Plan For Us All", "Deity Of Disgust", "The Addiction", "Original Sin" and "Suicide On My Mind". My personal favorites are "Deity" and "Original", both if which are duets. Aaron Stainthorpe (My Dying Bride) guests on "Original Sin" and Martin Haggstrom on "Deity Of Disgust". The latter of the two is absolutely amazing, as Haggstrom is a dead ringer for a younger Ronnie James Dio (The Dream Evil Era). Trust me when I say this disc is a must own! Go and buy it now!!!! |
