Animosity By: Black Angel |
The San Francisco Bay Area has always been a breeding ground for brutal music but I think this time the Bay has birthed its most destructive monster yet! The monster of which I speak is Animosity. It is comprised of young men whose ages range between 18 and 19 years old but you can't tell from the enormous amount of aggression they bring to the table. The band's latest album entitled "Empires" will be released through Black Market Activities later this month and I can tell you now, you aren't ready for this. This is total annihilation like you haven't felt since bands like Cannibal Corpse, Slayer and Celtic Frost first burst onto the scene. To top all of this madness off, this is only the band's second release. Animosity made quite a name for themselves from touring with bands like Arch Enemy, Dying Fetus, Exodus and various others. Hell, the band moved over a thousand units of their first album "Shut It Down" strictly through touring, with little to no support from their former label. The band also had issues with the fact that none of them had a driver's license That my friends, is tenacity, dedication and just flat out hard work!
"Empires" is a relatively short album but I don't think I could have handled much more than thirty minutes of getting my skull hammered in this way. Opening track, "Thieves", starts out with smash mouth guitar riffs that surprisingly have more melody and hooks than you can imagine. The vocals consist of powerful Death Metal growls that at times rival legends of days gone past. The rhythm section is another ferocious add to the song, the double bass kicks combined with machine gun like snare shots is disgusting; I love it! "Holy Shackles" continues on much in the same way, it slays! The things that stand out the most to me on this track are the vocals and the drum work. I honestly feel like I am getting kicked in the face! The guitars are also layered with heavy thrash hooks and grooves that make me wanna light myself on fire. Title track "Empires" is packed with, you guessed it, more sensational guitar riffs, this time around they build a wall around the vocals, drums and bass and they guard it heavily. This is a technique that Slayer has perfected throughout the years. "Manhunt" is straight up Grindcore. I wouldn't be lying if said the vocals in this track are the equivalent of being in a seven car pileup! I swear, I can't be still at any moment in this track, if it doesn't make you wanna break shit, it'll surely have you slamdancing til you fall out. As I've already told you, you aren't ready for the domination this album is about to unleash. I suggest you suit up and get ready for carnage, violence and domination. Animosity's Empire is one of the top extreme releases of the year and no matter what anybody says, it could not get any heavier than this, if it does, my head will surely fucking explode. 100% Devastation... Hooray! |
