The Badnads
Japanese Bloodbath
CD

By: Black Angel

Wow! It has been awhile since the "Black Country" has managed to produce a band that catches my eye. The Badnads have been squirming around since early '98, but never released anything. Finally, in March of 2004, Scarey Records, assaulted the world by issuing The Badnads first 7" entitled Japanese Bloodbath.

The Badnads exude violence, anger and attitude. It's not hard to understand this, specifically after viewing the cover of Japanese Bloodbath. It features several wrestlers fighting and being beaten to a bloody pulp in a Japanese Death Match. If the cover doesn't clue you into their angry, violent nature you need only take a listen to the 7" itself.

The songs are just as violent as the cover. Japanese Bloodbath is a fistpumping, slamdancing, eye-gouging tune jammed with vicious Punk Rock guitar riffs. The vocals are just as brutal. If you are a fan of Lars Fredriksen (Rancid) this is right up your alley. Nowadays so many bands murder classic tunes by doing horrible cover versions. This is not the case with The Badnads. They pay respect to the Killer, Jerry Lee Lewis, with an amazing cover of "I'm On Fire". "Ben Shaws Boys" is a track that leaves me feeling like I've just been romped over by a bulldozer. All the sounds on this track are driven with intensity and rage. And just when you thought it was safe... The Badnads do a smoking cover of David Alan Coe's "Keep Those Big Wheels Humming". There are no words to express how well they perform this track.

It is my belief that with the release of Japanese Bloodbath, Scarey Records has not only found the next members of the Confederacy Of Scum, they have found the missing links!
