The Barbarellatones

Invasion Of The Surf Zombies

[CD]

By: Black Angel

Mastermind, Robbie Quine has released his second cd this year. what's even more shocking is the fact that we aren't even half way through the year yet! The newest from our favorite glam fag is entitled, Invasion Of The Surf Zombies. More or less it's a collection of Quine's previous Horror/Sci-Fi/Surf tunes from all of his bands: Sex With Lurch, Prancing Ponies and The Barbarellatones. From my understanding the majority, if not all of the tracks have been reworked to give it a "Surfin" feel. Once again, Quine enlisted the guitar majesties of Peter Distefano (Porno For Pyros).

Invasion Of The Surf Zombies is nineteen tracks in length and features some of Quine's best work. Overall, the disc seems to really capture the feel of a real Horror-infested Hawaiian summer. Personally, each and every track is a stand out for me, as I love everything I've heard from him. For those of you who haven't heard anything from Quine, you'll certainly find amusement in "I Had Sex With A C.H.U.D.", "Zombie Drag Queen", "The Return Of Mothra" not to mention the always gender twisting "Tranni Troglodite". And what would a Horror Surf disc be without a mention of Jaws - nothing that's what. So you know Quine had to drop his impression of the man-eating mammoth, "Jaws" on here. If you're looking for the more aggressive lyrics of Quine, you'll find them neatly wrapped in "White Surf Trash" and "When Marionettes Kill". It shouldn't come as a surprise to any of you that my favorite tune off the disc is the remix of "Kentucky Fried Drag Queens", which is retitled "KFDG (Surf Mix)". No matter who you are, you can't help but get a laugh out of this track! Next to "Glitter Bitch", it's probably my favorite out of Quine's entire discography and that's saying alot.

There ya have it folks, Robbie Quine has outdone himself again! The only big difference this time out is you'll be treated with nothin' but tunes about Horror, Sci-Fi and Surfin' madness. Oh and let's not forget Drag Queens and Transsexuals! Robbie Quine is a fabulous disaster just like those before him-Bowie, Bolan and Reed.
