Behemoth

Satanika

[CD]

By: Black Angel

Dwell Records has remastered and re-released one of the best Death Metal cd's to come out in the last few years. Behemoth's "Satanica" was more than brilliant the first time around. Now that the quality and production has been raised a few notches the disc is ten times better, if you can imagine that. I'd already preferred "Satanica" more than any of the band's other efforts, the re-release solidifies it even more.

The song order hasn't changed, so it makes it all the more easy to enjoy! "Decade Of Therion" still very much slays everything in its path, only this time the music sounds better. Finally, this song has the quality and power needed to be a killer. "LAM" has always been my fav off the disc and now that everything has been cleaned up, it's even more vicious!!! Off in the distance I can smell the ashes of Hellfire smoldering. The structure and drumwork in "Ceremony Of Chiva" has always captivated me but this time around it consumes me!! The remastering has also added more tone and depth to the miraculous guitar riffs and leads; the same can be said for "Of Sephirotic Transformation and Carnality". This track is signed, sealed and delivered with a bomb embedded in it. The moment it starts, the lights go out and everything goes BOOM! "The Sermon To The Hypocrites" is slow, melodic and vengeful. Much like the first time I heard it, the guitar riffs remind me very much of early Celtic Frost and this is always a dark blessing. For those unknowing, there is a hidden track that will torture you to the very core of your mind. If I knew what Satan's voice sounded like or had to put a thought to it, the vocals in this tune would be it. As for the music, it's majestic and evil and comes off as if the band is conjuring up demonic spirits.

If you've not experienced this cd, you must! There is a reason why this band is invited on the "Blackest Of The Black Tour" with Danzig every year. It's because they deliver unrelenting, unforgiving Death Metal with a backhand of malicious intent.
