Beyond Twilight

For the Love of Art and the Making

[CD]

By: T.J .

Things are not what they seem. It matters not which direction you move for you will still be nowhere. Are you just one of a billion pieces making up this puzzle known as life or are you the entire piece to the puzzle? For these answers and more, we seek help from Beyond Twilight. And as the band will explain through their newest release FOR THE LOVE OF ART AND THE MAKING, the answers to these questions are easier to find than we thought. Prepare to enter the Twilight Zone…

How many times have you questioned things that have happened in your life, specifically that "why me" question that tends to be asked by pretty much everyone at least once in their lifetime? The album deals with the truly heavy things in life such as love, death, essence of creating, joy, anger, moral values and pretty much everything else in between that has some sort of affect on the heart.

Beyond Twilight have done something ingenious. Their third album is something truly unique. This entire album is one song, but it's cut up into 43 selections. I think that by itself and pretty damn cool, but something else that I think is interesting is if you put this album on shuffle and listen to it, you get a different story and different listening experience every time the album is played.

This 40 minute behemoth touches upon every cornerstone that the progressive metal warriors could possible muster. While the heart and the soul of the album is your trademark progressive metal, lighter and much darker tracks are conveyed all while answering those very important questions. While the opening "In the Eyes of My Soul (First Movement)" put me in the mindset of Rhapsody, other songs like "Sleeping Beauty"/"Tongue Angel" had me thinking Skid Row and Nocturnal Rites, although "Tongue Angel" did have some techno styled keyboards, it was still rather enjoyable. "Dark Wild Rage" is probably my favorite segment on the album. It reminds me a lot of Metallica's "St. Anger" in an abstract way, but also features some keyboards that remind me of the Mortal Kombat movies.

With a symphonic lost villager type of a feel (a la Blind Guardian) "6 Seconds Past 6" is another key highlight for the album as it sets up the stage for "Organ Scientist Formula (1)". This segment is deliciously dark, dreary and deadly. Some parts of it make you check behind to make sure the Count isn't standing behind you.

In the end, I'd have to say the answer is no matter what happens and how bad it may seem, things will eventually become better. I know that the story will change for almost all who listen, but that's what it was for me. Take a listen for yourself and ask yourself some very important questions. This album will answer all your questions through "Autumn Fog Message".
