Banane Metalik
Sex, Blood and Gore 'N' Roll
CD

By: T.J.

Let's face it. There really isn't much history about Banane Metalik. The band formed in France in 1989, played many shows and become very popular. In 1994, the band released their first album Requiem de la Dépravation and by 1995, had been forced to call it quits. However, 10 years later, Banane Metalik is back and they're sounding better than ever. Sex, Blood and Gore 'N' Roll is a 30 minute recess in the devil's playground. Its raining sulfur my friends and you know what they say when it rains…IT POURS!!

Who here likes a healthy dose of bloody and bilingaul psychobilly? Hmm?….You? Yes, you saw that right, bilingual! While the majority of the songs are French, some songs are in English. Well, now that I think about it, I guess they would be trilingual because in "Ride in Peace" the song is in Spanish. That alone extremely impresses me. Even with the language barrier, all of the songs are enjoyable and catchy.

"In Gore 'n' Roll we Trust!!!" this line from the opening "666% Gore 'n' Roll" says it all and well prepares you for what you're getting yourself into by listening to this album. Now honestly, since the majority of the songs in French it's hard for me to tell what they're about, so lyrically I can't give much information there. The good news is musically, it's easy to inform you. The music is drenched in blood and has many quality psychobilly attributes to it, but some of the songs are darker than your average psychobilly ditties. The first song I can understand entirely is "Freaky Bitch Murder". The song is basically about wanting a freaky bitch to fuck and kill. The song is pretty funny to me beside the obvious because every time Ced666 says "bitch", it sounds like he's saying "beach". "We need a freaky beach to murder" *haha*

Leaving nothing to the imagination is "Surfin' Banana". Let that sink in for a second…Okay, if you don't know by now, you won't get it. "Surfin' Banana" is a sexual innuendo and if you don't know what for, you need to go outside every once in a while. If you go through the song and disagree with me, just check out the last line which reads "Suck my Banana!". "Ride in Peace" deserves an honorable mention, hell it's one of my favorites on the album. As I previously mentioned, the song is heavily influenced by Spanish classical guitar and the song is sung in Spanish. It really is a beautiful song, but it still has a nice psychobilly sound to it.

16 years. Two albums. Hopefully this truly talented band won't have to hide in the shadows for another 10 years again.
