Beautiful Creatures

Deuce

[CD]

By: Black Angel

The release of the new Beautiful Creatures cd is long overdue. Thank GOD, the time has finally arrived! "Deuce" hit the store shelves a few weeks back and has been quickly clawing its way into the hearts of Rock fans across the globe. This time around the Creatures have a new drummer and guitar player in Tim Russell and Mark Simpson. These guys slide right in where Glenn and Ashba left off. Hell, I don't even miss them. On "Deuce", Lead vocalist, Joe Leste' proves himself once more. After all these years he is still one of the best front men ever. I've been following his career since his days in the 80's Sleaze/Glam band "Bang Tango", and let me tell you, if you ain't heard those cd's, you're missing out. The man is a RAWK GAWD!

Quick, fast and in a hurry, this cd explodes! "Anyone" is a powerhouse of a tune jammed with phat guitar riffs, leads and a back-beat that'll knock you into the middle of next week. Leste's vocals have more grit than normal and this further adds strength to the lyrics and the energy the song gives off. "Unforgiven" is fast-paced Rock throughout the verses while the chorus breaks down turning into a melody filled anthem. Easily, this song could have been written in the 80's, but hey, that's a good thing! The lead-break in this track is badass, I've been missing guitar leads in music for too damned long. The first single of the disc, "Superfly", is the weakest track off the disc and it's not that weak, just doesn't make me wanna crash my car or set myself on fire. The Creatures slow the tempo down with "Empty". Don't mistake me and think it's that soft. The crunch of the guitars will still cave in your skull. "Straight To Hell" is a stage-divin', fist-pumpin', ass-mawling Punk/Rock track that dances dangerously on the brink of insanity. Leste's vocals pack as much of a punch as the rhythm section does. "Ton Of Lead " sees the band slow the pace down into brooding blues-based Rock . The only thing that slightly annoys me is Leste's vocals sound more like Zakk Wylde than his own. I don't care what anybody says, Wylde should stick to drinking and picking! Nevertheless, the song still kicks ass. The only thing missing from this album is nostalgia friendly tracks like "New Orleans" and "Wish", but they're on the first album and this is a new beginning of one helluva band.

"Deuce" offers many more tunes that'll fulfill your desire for intense guitar driven Metal. Yes, the boys are back and ready to romp and stomp all over you. I've read that a few so-called music journalists have said the Creatures were washed up Sunset Strip burnouts trying desperately to hold on to something that's long gone.... Obviously, they've listened to way too much damned bullshit music. Where I come from Heavy Metal has intense rhythm, blistering guitar leads and a front man that'll make every woman in the audience swoon with lust. Damn the naysayers, Beautiful Creatures are back and they're the real fucking deal.
