Creepersin

Conducted 05/05

By: T.J.

How did Creepersin form and how long have you been together?

Creep Creepersin: Well, I've been planning this project and writing songs for this band since '99 and I never found the right group of guys or girls until I met Mop. He was the reason the band is in motion right now. If this time around I couldn't find anyone, I would have put on hold for another 6 months or something and try again. But this time around everything fell together. I got Mop out of an ad in the paper. He was the only one on there who didn't want to do a 'Linkin Park' type band or a GNR cover band. I think he said something about Danzig in his ad. We found El Hombre within a week and Stitchblade is bassist #3. He and El Hombre were in a band together a while ago. I think the first practice was in August of last year, first show was on Halloween and its been a rollercoaster ever since.

The band's slogan is "The Band that Terrorized the World". Why that as your band motto?

Our first flyer was a rip of a Frankenstein lobby card, and on it, it said "the monster that terrorized the world" and we just changed it. "hell bent on world domination" would have worked just as well, but that is definitely the plan. We want to be a big as coke. Divide and conquer. That was plan A. but we started getting fans in like New York, New Jersey, Idaho, Utah, New Mexico… fucking all over the country and in Europe and Mexico. But, we aren't as huge as we have to be, so we have to find a better way to manage the Creeper Crew (Creepersin fan club), cuz it is fucking tough!

We are gonna have a "tagline" for each album, but "the band that terrorized the world" will stick and will always be there.

What bands would you say helped mold Creepersin into what they are today?

Well, Misfits and The Ramones are a no brainer, but 45 Grave and Christian Death's first album for sure. But there are a lot of other things from The Smiths to The Murder City Devils. A lot of our songs are also based on old country melodies and old rock n roll.

Right now you're still a relatively unknown horror rock band. What would you do to see yourself rank higher in the horror rock food chain?

Well first off, it's who you fucking know. We are a super fucking talented band, we put on a great show, and we need to play some high profile shows. We have some tours coming up… just a lot of promotion is needed. We are a fairly young band and there is no doubt in my mind that Creepersin is gonna be huge. We're a fucking avalanche. We have gotten a few labels making us offers. Some fucker is gonna make a lot of fucking money with us and good for him.

There are a lot of horror rock bands out right now. What do you think makes your music stand out from the rest?

Well I hope we don't just sound like a Misfits cover band to our fans. We want every song we have to have the strength to be a single. We are trying to stay out of the Psychobilly scene just because we aren't a Psychobilly band. Musically we are evolving quite nicely. Mop is starting to write with me now. Each day we get better. Our next album (Klatu….Verada…Crepersin!) is gonna blow "The Rise of Creepersin" away. We are not just another punk band. It is very diverse. There are a lot of things that I see really great horror rock bands doing that I think is "rock n' roll suicide", which is sad but we are not in the business of closing doors on ourselves. We are just a fucking fantastic shock rock band with superb music.

Your track "Bleed for Me" is on the World Horror Network Compilation called "The Horror of it All". How'd you come about getting a song on the compilation and how did you decide what song was going to be on it?

They contacted us and asked if we wanted to do it. When I found out what other bands were on it, it wasn't a question. There are some great fucking bands on that comp. We almost put "Last House" on it, and then almost put "Plan 9" on it. Then we were gonna go record a new song but that was when we had just finished "The Rise of Creepersin" and we didn't want to go back to the studio. "Bleed For Me " is the song that all the stations that play us play, so we just thought that was everyone's favorite.

You just recently released your first full length album "The Rise of Creepersin". How did the recording process go and what are your favorite tracks off the album?

Recording it happened quick we went in to do a single, "Bleed For Me" backed with "Last House" then went back a little bit later and did "Meet Me Out In The Sticks" and "Proceed With Plan 9" and decided to put out the EP " The Following Preview is R", and it went so fucking smooth we said lets put a whole album out. We started it about a month after we got together so we were all shocked when it fell together. "Bleed" and "Plan 9" came out real good those are probably my faves on the album.

What else can we expect from Creepersin in 2005?

Well, we are recording our next album, "Klatu…Verada…Creepersin!" in a couple of weeks. It'll have a lot more songs on it than "The Rise of Creepersin" does. I'm gonna do an acoustic song on it but we are also gonna have some shit on it that's a lot heavier than "Rise". It'll also have more keyboards and shit. For sure, we are touring this fall. All up the west coast and the western states. And we might be in the Florida area for about a month doing some stuff. We are shooting a video for "Proceed With Plan 9' next month which will be a blast. We are on a horror movie soundtrack from Belgium which I'm geeked about. A little dream come true. I have a book coming out this fall as well as a solo album, and if everything works well the end of the year will have me directing my first film which is blowing me away right now, all of it… This year is definitely the year of Creepersin.

I noticed a lot of Frankenstein references (CD, shirts, etc.) so what are Creepersin's favorite horror movie monsters?

Frankenstein is a great story that I feel I relate with a lot and while I was growing up. The monster that just wanted to be loved that nobody understood so went on murderous rages. Shit like that. We tried to make the face more skull like so we could call it "Creeperstein" or something like that but it doesn't matter. We are gonna get sued anyway. Love all the classics. Love Jason Voorhees. I just really love horror films. I think all singers in horror rock bands are just frustrated directors or don't know how to get into it.

If Creepersin could improve its sound, how would you go about doing that?

I think in the studio. "Rise..." sounds a little different than we thought it would just because Mop and I produced it. That album really taught us a lot about how to record Creepersin. Dean Cooper from Hollywood Music mastered the album and we learned a lot then too. Live, we're the shit! But, the sound of the next album will definitely be a jewel in the crown.
