Furia [Damien] Conducted 05/06 By: Black Angel |
Furia seems to be a band happy to mix and mingle a lot of genres together as well as a few sub-genres. Would I be correct in assuming your music ranges from Death, Thrash, Black, Electronic and maybe a little Experimental music?
Yes, you’re right!! But you forgot heavy!!! We’ve got lots of influences in every metal kind, so we use these influences with our touch. Given the fact that Furia has been around since 1997, how would you describe the early years of the band? In the beginning we were playing heavy-death-black melodic!!! We used to play in pubs and only sometimes in festivals. But it was good. As for now, we are doing things we like: I mean sharing our songs and our desire to play on stage. What exactly were you trying to accomplish when the band came together back in the day? Was it more for fame or for the music? If we were doing it for fame… we wouldn’t play metal!! We only do what we want and when we want. You’ve released two albums over the years. How well do you think they’ve went over with music fans? Our two first albums received great chronicles, now they still have good sensations for guys we meet on gigs. These albums represent the beginning when Furia became known in France… For us these albums are our two first babies… and now they’ve got a little brother!! How well do you think your previous material stands up to your newest release, “Kheros”, which was released on Seasons of Mist? Our two first albums represent our “melodic” face, on these albums we passed time to create orchestral arrangements. On our new album, we wanted to make simple songs, crude tracks. We wanted this album faster than the two others.
Thank you very much!!! As I told you previously, we only try to make the music we like and we want for the moment. We never wanted to accomplish anything. I hear a lot of classic Thrash Metal reminiscent of Megadeth, Metal Church, Kreator and bands of that nature. Am I crazy, or should I be right in hearing this? This is your 2nd point!!! Yes, you’re right. These bands are some of our different influences… and I can tell you that we made a song that we didn’t put in this album, which sounded like Megadeth. The production of the album is SICK! How much time was spent in the studio on mastering and mixing this perfect beast that you’ve built? I don’t really remember, only that it was short. We passed 2 month on recording, and I think that mixing and mastering it has been made in 1 month. ;) How long did you work on the material before you decided you were ready to go in and lay the tracks down? We decided to record Kheros during its creation; it means that some songs have been finished in studio. We worked really quickly on this album; we wanted Kheros to be crude-very basic. Do you have a specific track that you favor over any others? If so, what makes it stand out among the crowd? Yes we’ve got one “Mémoires d’outre tombe” from our second album “Un lac de larmes et de sang” with a clear voice refrain. It’s really cool to see people singing with you... during 15 seconds it’s great to feel like Bruce Dickinson!! (Sure for him it’s 2 hours!!) ;) Is there a track or something in particular on “Kheros” that you’re unhappy with, now that you’ve had time to go back and listen? Personally, I don’t like the last song on Kheros “the result of a destiny”, for me it’s a song much too slow. It doesn’t finish this album as much as it should begin it… How well do you feel the cd has been received by your hardcore fan base? And how well do you think newcomers like me will feel about the music you’ve created? This is the question I waited for!!! Some of our first fans hate Kheros due to its modern sound along with the fact that we didn’t work the melodic side... it’s not a problem, everyone has different tastes. We got new listeners (as you!! welcome!), some of them came from another metal style, but no problemo… for us the essential is to meet guys who like what we make.
Actually, this gig was last year!!! ;) We were really excited to play on this festival… and of course really stressed… How well do you think you’ll do playing to a crowd of people that may have never heard of you? We usually play on gigs where 20% of the public doesn’t know Furia. One time we played on a Heavy-metal festival, we were the younger band, we were headliner, I’m sure only 20% of the guys knew us!!! We played as usual, but it’s cool to meet guys who tell you that they didn’t hear anything about you before, and for now they like your band… Is this you’re biggest show to date or have you played bigger? It has been the biggest festival we played on. How much longer will we have to wait until you come to the USA to wreck our cities? I don’t know… but you know that we don’t have power these things… Maybe one day an organization could ask us for it!!!! Who knows?! I can tell you that this day; I will make the biggest fiesta I’ve ever made!!! What would be your ideal tour, (what kind of package would you like to be on)? For me the greatest tour will be with Iron Maiden! Seriously?! The ideal tour will be with Dark Tranquility, In Flames, Dimmu Borgir, Rammstein and Eminem ( I really want to meet him !). I’d like to personally thank you for such a kickass cd, I’ve been having a blast with it constantly! I’d also like to say thanks for the time you’ve shared with us today. Is there anything you’d like to leave us/your fans with-encouragement, insults, shouts out? I’m glad to see that you like Kheros, thank you very much for your support. I wish to meet you and all the American Furia’s listeners… in this life for sure! ;) |
