Daniel and Kristoffer Conducted 03/06 By: T.J. |
What initially brought Head Control System together and what is the objective behind it?
Head Control System: It was the need to create some ass-kickin' shit. I believe Head Control System will be able to get some heads out of control, and that's why we did it. Metaphorically, and not at all pretentiously, we have built a machine that will interfere with the minds and lives of the people. It is a strong and potentially dangerous weapon. We're glad to have it under our control. Originally, the name of the band was Sindrome and the name of your new album (Murder Nature) was entitled Killer View. What caused the change? Daniel: Well, we kept polishing the body, oiling the machine, you know. That's how I like to face life, always shaping up for a shinier image. We will change our band name again if we think we can come up with something that better represents the essence. I continually read that Head Control System is an experiment. Is it an experiment in the sense of how you're writing your music, or as in a one time deal releasing an album under HCS? Daniel: I don't think so. There will be more for sure. We approach it as an experiment due to the fact that we were both stepping on new soil. The "slippery when wet" kind. The reason we got there in the first place was quite natural, but the truth was that we both come from different musical backgrounds and although we were pretty confident, we didn't really know how/if it would work. The way I see it, it did (work) and we fucking love it. On Murder Nature, there are many different musical influences, a lot of them being very popular in the early 90's (i.e. Alice In Chains, Faith No More). While writing the new material for this album, who were some of your biggest musical influences and was there a specific sound you were aiming for? Daniel: I do listen to those examples and a lot more. I've been a lot into modern alternative music while writing for this record. Mars Volta, QOTSA, you know. Whatever kicks ass. Music that is light and fresh, but still heavy. I can't say I've been listening to metal music lately. I'm in a different place right now. And it feels good. What tracks from Murder Nature are your favorite and which ones are you most proud of? Daniel: : I would have to highlight "Blunt Instrumental". It was done completely out of schedule but I just felt like we could use some more weird, instrumental, environments and I forced myself to come up with something really intense. From the regular tracks I would have to say "Skin Flick", "No. Seven" and "Wonderworld".
Daniel: I'd love to tour the US, not with HCS, but with my laptop and portable studio gear and write a couple more albums on the road. It is all about creation and not about re-creation. I'm in a very creative mode right now. Not that I don't like it, because I do, but what's the deal with the "Girls of HCS"? Daniel: They love us and we love them. I ain't no Hugh Heffner (yet), but I'm happy we can associate ourselves with beautiful and sexy girls in a professional manner. I have to admit that I would personally like to make love to every single one of them, lots of times, in different places, with different time schedules. Unfortunately that's not how it works. And I do respect them very much. What do you think the greatest difference is between Ulver and Head Control System? Kristoffer: ULVER sees the world inside out. Head Control System has got it all right. Do you see yourself happier playing the more atmospheric, progressive type music in Ulver or the heavier rock music in Head Control System? Kristoffer: I am bipolar. Finally, is there anything you'd like to say to those reading this? Is there anything you'd like to add to the Ulver and HCS fans? Kristoffer: Don't trust anyone. Especially not Daniel Felipe Cardoso. |
