My Insanity Conducted 07/05 By: Boris |
Scattered Soul Puzzle is a great album. How do you think it compares and contrasts to Solar Child and Still Dreams In Violent Areas?
Sascha: Thank you for the flowers. Four years passed between Solar Child and scattered during that time we grew up as musicians as well as humans. I learned how to play drums, because we split with our old drummer, Rene. It took a bit of time. We tried very hard not to copy the first and the second album. We think the new one sounds really open minded, it’s not just Gothic Metal, like the press said about both of our previous albums. You can hear very different styles and sounds, like reggae, industrial and so on. It’s modern Rock & Roll to us with acoustic guitars, drum & bass beats-heaviness and bitterness. We experiment with every sound and see what happens in the end. We’re always looking afor the perfect melody and we haven’t found it yet. Your blending of rock/metal with digital/sythetic is well done. What made you decide to bring the digital aspect into the rock/metal arena? Faust: We all like strange techno stuff or digital beats and it was the plan from the beginning to put samples and electronic parts in the music. It fits, it gives the music a special atmosphere and it’s own sound. It increases the different spirits of our music. Sometimes we remix a song and we just use samples and electronic sounds. It’s not official, it’s just for fun. Maybe one day we’ll release it too. Some of the slower, all-digital songs sound as if they could easily be used as a film score. Have you ever thought about writting music for film? Sascha: The first version of “Anything To Anyone” was made for an underground splatter horror movie. The idea to write a whole soundtrack for a movie sounds interesting man. we like dark soundtracks such as the The Army Of Darkness theme. It would be cool to create a soundtrack like this. Our singer/songwriter, Faust is a big fan of using orchestral sounds and often writes classical themes. Maybe he will be the next Enrico Morricone. And with songs like "Extinct," "Wake Up.....Prisoners!," "Giants Little Ghost," and "Goodbye In The Bloodred Sky," have you ever thought of releasing an entire album of music like this? Faust: We never know which way the next album will sound. We are open minded enough to write acoustic songs that fit the My Insanity sound. Sometimes we play an unplugged version and it sounds pretty cool. Maybe we will make an unplugged album, one day? The band was extremely busy from its start in 1996 up to 2001. What were you doing from 2002 through 2005? Sascha: You must know that we are a pretty lazy band. We don’t stress to write new songs. We played some shows in Switzerland, some crazy shows in the Kosovo and Afghanistan, but that was it. We all have serious jobs, so we don’t have the time to compose a new album every year. We take the time we have and try to make the best music possible. If we could make a living off of the music it would be easier and faster to make new albums. On the other hand, we built our own studio (the out-sane studio) to give us and other bands the opportunity to record. In the future, do you think that the band will go heavier or more digital? Faust: I don’t know how the next album will sound in the future. We will begin to write new stuff in April of this year. We just let it flow from the moment of composing, but we’ll not forget the heaviness and the electronic parts, it’s our trademark, it’s My Insanity. We do the best we can to reach a higher, better level. How was the "Summer Darkness" festival? Tell us about your experience. Sascha: The Summer Darkness was the first official show with the new line up. It was mind and our guest guitar player, Hollie’s premier. We were a bit nervous and I’m sure it showed in the beginning of the show, but we enjoyed it and people liked it. We hope that we can play it again. Now that we’ve played a lot of shows, you’ll see we are getting better and better live. I know that you were going on tour in August of this year, are you still touring now? Faust: We play some shows in Germany in the next few months and we’ll stay in contact with a promoter in Columbia. We hope we can play there very soon. We’re getting more and more fans in South America and that makes us very proud….Slowly the My Insanity virus expands. Where did you get the information about a tour in August? I don’t know anything about that, but it would be great to tour again. We are ready for that…… You guys have an amazing work ethic, constantly busy. What keeps you so close and how do you stay on track? Sascha: Well, the reason for that is we are like brothers. We cry, fight and laugh together. We all have the same goal; to create a own sound and not copy any other shit. If you knew us, you would see that we can’t stay on track. There are days where everything and everyone goes insane-we’re not the innocent playboys from Germany. What can we expect from My Insanity in 2006? Faust: Our plan is to release a DVD with live performances from last year’s shows. Like I said, we’ll start in April with the new songs. Expect the unexpected and hopefully we’ll play a lot of shows. Because, we need the money for our parties!
