Marquis DeBlood Conducted 1/06 By: T.J. |
Both band-wise and personally, a lot was accomplished for you last year. Looking
back at 2005, what do you think were your and the band's greatest achievements?
Marquis: Well, first off finally getting "Garden of Rage" to see the light of day. We've had such a hard time with it, and to finally get it out was like a burden lifted off our shoulders. Hooking up with Dr. Cyclops. It's so nice to deal with someone who makes your band a number on priority and stands behind you 200 percent. Getting on the Tribute to Danzig (this totally made my year). We've had a lot of great things happen and we've made some great friends and connections along the way. At the end of 2005, the band re-released your debut album Garden of Rage. What possessed you to do that? It's a long story. We originally intended to release it in 2004, but due to some complications with a distributor it never happened. Then after a long and discouraging search for a distributor we hooked up with the good Dr. (Dr. Cyclops) and he was totally gun ho about puttin this out. He wanted to give it a new life, a re- birth so to speak. New Art, bonus tracks etc... He felt that the world should hear this album in a new light. So We had the album re-mastered (it's sounds like it should now), Artwork from Big Tony from Rubber Wolf? Graphics and decided to throw in a DVD as an added extra. If it wasn't for Dr. Cyclops, I don't even know if it would even be out now... On top of re-releasing your debut album, the band also cut some tracks for the Roky Erickson and Danzig tributes. How'd you guys get the opportunity to do that? "The early bird gets the worm", I always say. Music is so much of my life and when I heard about these tributes to these artists (that have totally shaped me artistically and personally), I felt that I should give my respects. Also when I want something I don't stop until I get it. What would you like to see (the) Others accomplish in 2006 that they haven't been able to since the band's creation in 2002? Hmmm, that's a tough one. Well I would like to Tour more. Get someone to pay for our next album (we're still paying off the last one). World domination pretty much. I feel we have a lot to offer and it's time the world sees that. Aside from (the) Others, you play(ed) in BloodSuckingFreaks. What's the biggest difference between the two bands? Well "BSF" is just a side project I do with my brother. We do a show every couple of years and make an album when ever we get a chance. We'll have a new one very soon, "Rattle the Bones". Mike just needs to finish his vocals. It's basically for shits and giggles. "Others" I take very seriously.
I've been writing all of my life (as far as I can remember). I love words, whether it be poetry, lyrics and such. I just basically took up writing novelettes and short stories about a year ago. I like to broaden my horizons and I've always wanted to write a book of some sort. Then talk of a short story contest came up at the WHN board. It was the match that started the fire. The short story I originally wrote for it "The Last Vampyr", ended up bigger than I expected so i decide to go all the way with it. I really enjoyed doing the research and then that lead to my second novelette "King of Terror". Now I have the bug. Are you currently working on another tale of macabre and blood? I am currently starting work on, "Murder was his name" (tentatively titled). Now, sit back, relax and answer truthfully and I won't throw the kitten out of the window! What's your opinion of today's horror music scene? I think it's great. Horror is the new Punk. Punk has gotten so stale and popular it has totally lost its meaning. It's not a life style anymore; it's a damn fashion statement. Horror music has always been around but with Punk in its sad state, there was no other choice. The saying used to be "Punks don't get old, they go Goth". Now it's "Punks dead, Horror is the King".
Well I should be careful what I say here. I really like what I've heard from Zombeast. DieMonsterDie. Shit there's so many. Danzig, a lot of the classics. Lugosi's Morphine (and now I get to play bass with them – woo hoo!) was this band from Canada, Subspieces (I think they broke up though). Alot of the spookabilly bands, Death Riders, Michale Graves (despite all of his failings). I could go on for days. I can't really tell anyone to give up because I sucked at one point myself so everyone grows sooner or later. Are there any specific albums you're looking forward to this year (2006)? The Danzig Tribute, the Roky Erickson Tribute. I'm really looking forward to Zombeast's new release and Cradle of Filth. And finally, is there anything you'd like to leave our audience with? Well first off I would like to thank you for this interview. Jeff DaBella and crew at Mansion Audio for their belief in us and all of their endless support. Shane Diablo at Dr. Cyclops Records for his belief and support. All of the fiends at the WHN. Everyone who has helped / supported / believed in what I / we do. All of our fans.
